Over seventy years old, SEPOS is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) educational organization operating in accordance with official by-laws and under the direction of an eleven member Board of Directors.
Monthly member meetings feature informative lectures, the highly acclaimed SEPOS show table, food, fun and friendship.
SEPOS hosts one of the largest International Orchid Shows in North America. In addition, members exhibit their plants at several other regional orchid shows.
Many experienced SEPOS members and AOS judges lecture at regional orchid societies and other related organizations, sharing their expertise in a range of subject matter.
Monthly meetings include a new growers session where experienced members share their knowledge about a wide range of topics related to culture and exhibiting. Participants ask questions and share experiences ... enjoyed by those new to the hobby as well as those with some experience.
Periodic visits to member and/or commercial greenhouses afford an opportunity to compare cultural techniques and share personal triumphs as well as frustrations.
Annual show proceeds afford an opportunity to support many worthwhile projects around the world. Past recipients include The Academy of Natural Sciences, Jocotoco Foundation, Native Orchid Conference, the American Orchid Society conservation fund, SERC (Smithsonian Environmental Research Center), Orchid Conservation Alliance and ACEER (Amazon Center for Environmental Education and Research).
The annual auction of purchased and member donated plants provides an opportunity to acquire quality plants at reasonable prices. Proceeds help fund the society's annual budget.
A monthly electronic publication which describes the upcoming meeting and keeps members apprised of current goings-on in the society as well as the orchid world at large.
