Welcome to S.E.P.O.S.
Wednesday, May 9, 2012 - Mary Jo Gilsdorf - Los Orquideas Locos en Costa Rica (Those Crazy Orchid People in Costa Rica)
... an orchideacous adventure in horticultural Disneyworld. Mary Jo traveled to Costa Rica over the later holidays this past December
and January with ten other intrepid travelers who were all orchid enthusiasts. We bagan the trip in Orchid Mecca - Lankester Gardens
and wound our way through several stops in the central volcanic valley, then to the Monteverde Cloud Forest and finally to the Pacific
Coast seeing a great variety of orchids (and other flora and fauna) along the way.
Mary Jo Gilsdorf is an accredited AOS Judge and
active in the local orchid community where she is a member of several societies. Mary Jo began growing orchids in her teens in Puerto
Rico and took up the hobby again in earnest about twelve years ago. She grows a variety of genera in her greenhouse and has recieved
a number of AOS flower quality and cultural awards. During the day, she is in-house counsel to a major regional construction management
company.
Southeastern Pennsylvania Orchid Society
Home
The SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA ORCHID SOCIETY is a non-profit organization for educational purposes. We aid in the cultivation, understanding
and enjoyment of orchids through meetings, lectures, exhibits and publications.
Our membership consists of all levels of orchid growers
from those with one or two orchids on a window sill to professional growers and AOS judges. All orchid enthusiasts are welcome at
SEPOS.
Our primary focus is our monthly meetings held at the Freedoms Foundation in Valley Forge, PA. We obtain speakers from
national and international levels who are more than happy to share their wealth of knowledge. Our New Growers Group meets before each
regular meeting and we have some of the best show tables on the East Coast, a prolific display of a wide range of our members' blooming
plants.
Our meetings provide many opportunities for education, camaraderie and the enjoyment of all things orchid. In addition, SEPOS
maintains an extensive library of books and journals. These materials are available for members to borrow.
Our Annual Orchid Show
combines everything we strive for into one huge event. Orchid growers and orchid societies create breathtaking displays using orchids
of every imaginable size, shape and color. Thousands of orchids are available for sale by international growers and there is a wealth
of information available in the form of literature and lectures. Our show is truly an extravaganza you won't want to miss.
